Cow Bell Update
As I have said before, my house came with a lot of stuff (junk). This cowbell not only was covered in rust and bugs, but it had a hornets nest in it. I fully indented to get rid of it, but both of my girl’s decided they liked “the cow”. Getting it down was a chore in itself, but I realized quickly that this might be almost beyond repair. I soaked it in a vinegar and water mixture overnight and scrubbed it with a brillo pad and could barely see a difference. I ended up using this product to get off the most offensive corrosion. This is it after the first round of cleaning…
At this point, I was admittedly over dealing with the cow and just decided to spray paint it and see what happened. My exterior doors are Sherwin Williams Courtyard Green, so I decided to go with Rustoleum paint and primer in Hunter Green. Congo by is another one of my favorites, but I was worried that it would not fully adhere over the rust. I took apart the bell and did three coats over the span of two days and then put it back together and hung it up. So that my kids could actually ring the bell, I used some ribbon I had on hand and a pink key chain ring to attach it. I still need to find a dowel to put on top, but I love how it turned out and am happy to report that the girls ring it every time they walk in the house!
