Valentine’s Day Playing Card Heart

As I mentioned in my post about making PLAYING CARD GARLAND, I had a box of playing cards that I wanted to use for decorating for valentines day. I have a dark fireplace and thought that a simple, card shaped heart would be the perfect touch. I didn’t have a template to go off of because of the size, so I folded a piece of wrapping paper in half and drew one half of the heart on the folded side, so that it would be even. Mine ended up being a little over two feet tall, but you could do larger or smaller depending on your space!

Once I got the heart template the way I wanted it, I traced it onto a poster board I had left over from a previous project. It needs to be thicker than regular poster paper to be able to hold the weight of cards. This does not have to be perfect on the edges, because you will end up having to trim the cards at the end, so don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect!

After the poster heart was cut out, I plugged up my tiny glue gun and started randomly gluing cards everywhere. I always find it difficult to make abstract patters, but I put a podcast on and tried not to think about the placement.

Once the cards reached the outside edges, I started trimming along the edges with regular scissors and was extremely happy with the end result! Not only was it a quick project, but it added a little something extra to our décor and ended up being the perfect backdrop for my kids Valentine’s card pictures!
